Championing Change: A Successful CSW69 Side Event on GBV in Women’s Sport.

The Racheal Kundananji Legacy Foundation (RKF) proudly hosted a powerful and insightful side event at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women CSW69 in New York, where we offered a platform to discuss gender-based violence (GBV) in women’s sport. This critical conversation brought together leading experts, advocates, and athletes to address the challenges and solutions in creating a safer and more inclusive sporting environment for women.

Our founders, Racheal Kundananji and Bernadette Deka Zulu, led the conversations by chairing the session and giving a situational presentation.

A heartfelt thank you to our distinguished speakers and panelists who constituted high-level experts from across the world.

Panelists:

  1. Mme Esther Eghobamien-Mshelia, Vice-Chair, CEDAW Committee.
  2. Dr. Lombe Mwambwa, PhD, Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport (Moderator).
  3. Dr. Briana Baker, PhD, Stanford University Sports Equity Lab.
  4. Dr. Sarah Zipp, PhD, Mount St. Mary’s University / Power to Play Period.
  5. Dr. Albert Munanga, Serengeti Care & University of Washington Clinical Faculty.

The discussions, Q&A session, and networking opportunities reinforced the urgency of tackling GBV in sports while amplifying the voices leading the change. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this event a success.

This marked an international launch for the RKF as we remain committed to advancing gender equity and safeguarding women in sport. Let’s continue the conversation and drive meaningful change!
